Welcome back to Joey’s Craft Soda Review! If you follow the Craft Beverage Jobs blog then you know that as a rule, we do NOT do reviews. There are plenty of review blogs out there and they do a great job highlighting craft beverages. We stick to careers and industry news.
However, there is always an exception to every rule. Meet our exception, Joey Godinez! Joey is a 15 year old who not only loves to drink craft soda but loves to write about it as well. We were so impressed with Joey’s skills that we invited him to review one craft soda each month and share his review as our guest on the Craft Beverage Jobs Blog. We think you will be impressed!
Joey’s Craft Soda Review
I’m Joey. I like craft soda, a lot. In my opinion I feel that craft sodas have a lot more to offer than a mass produced soda not only in taste, but in variety and quality of ingredients used in their production. This is a big reason why I generally enjoy craft sodas, and I also think that drinking them and reviewing them is a great way to support the generally smaller companies that produce these beverages.
Dublin Cherry Limeade
This soda kinda reminds me of a cherry slushie.
Dublin Bottling Works was founded in 1891 by Wade Morrison, Robert Lazenby, and Sam Houston Prim. The company was the first to bottle and sell the ever popular Dr. Pepper soda, and has since added a number of other sodas to their arsenal.
So, my Mom buys all my soda for me. By pure coincidence she happened to get a soda with red and green colors for my near Christmas… err, Holiday review. The soda in question being Dublin Bottling Works Cherry Limeade.
The Look…
It’s got a pretty simple look, red font with a green background, and uber pretty cherry/ruby red liquid inside. The stuff smells like a cherry slushie to me, which is absolutely a good thing. For some reason I’ve always thought that cherry stuff smells like almond extract, but maybe that’s just me.
The Taste…
The taste is pretty straightforward to me, cherry and lime. Straightforward isn’t always a bad thing though, it’s pretty good. For the color you’d expect a little more cherry. Don’t get me wrong, there’s plenty, but there could have been more. The lime is kinda muted, which bums me out a bit cuz a little more might have made up for the lack of fizz, but at least they’re both somewhat present.
This soda kinda reminds me of a cherry slushie. I will always be down for a cherry slushie, there is nothing you can do to separate me from my slushie, and no matter how many I have, I will want another one. I will drink slushies in any weather on any day, and I will enjoy it. So yeah, cherry limeade is slushie, never forget that.
Overall, this is far from a bad soda, it’s probably in my top 10, and there’s a lot of sodas I’ve tried that don’t come anywhere near that list. 8/10
