Joey is back with another craft soda review! Craft Beverage Jobs is not a review website, but once a month we make allowances for 15 year old Joey Godinez to tell us about the latest craft soda he’s tasted.
This review reminds us that not all craft soda’s are created equal. You can check out all of Joey’s Craft Soda Reviews right here at the Craft Beverage Jobs blog.
Joey’s Craft Soda Review
I’m Joey. I like craft soda, a lot. In my opinion, I feel that craft sodas have a lot more to offer than a mass produced soda not only in taste, but in the variety and quality of ingredients used in their production. This is a big reason why I generally enjoy craft sodas, and I also think that drinking them and reviewing them is a great way to support the generally smaller companies that produce these beverages.
Cicero Beverage Company’s Chocolate Hazelnut Soda
It’s that time once again, time for me to subject my taste-buds to another possibly amazing, possibly horrific craft soda. And who’s this month’s contender? None other than the Cicero Beverage Company’s Chocolate Hazelnut soda. Nutella in a bottle, or something far less appealing? Time to find out.
The Bottle
The bottle, as usual, is nothing special. I think that I’m just really picky about which bottles I like. Of course there’s nothing wrong with it, but it doesn’t exactly stick out either. There’s three different fonts going on, and a picture of some city that I don’t recognize. Like I said, maybe it’s just me.
The Smell
It smells pretty odd, not exactly in a good way, not in a bad way either. It’s got a creamy smell that is in itself kinda confusing. I normally love creamy tasting and smelling beverages, but this one smells kinda… sharp in a way that isn’t too appealing. I swear it smells very familiar in a way though, but I can’t put my finger on exactly how. Maybe a bit scented candle-ish.
The Fizz
This soda just enjoys messing with me. When I popped the top it seemed decently fizzy, but after each regrettable sip, (more on that in a minute) it started to overflow from my straw and lost most of the bubbles in the process. I’m very disappointed so far.
The Taste
And now for the taste. If I cringed a little during my last review of the eggnog-colada, I almost did a full on spit take with this one. It’s got an overly sweet, kinda boozy cream disaster thing going for it. My mom says she thinks it’s ok, that it tastes like Nutella soda, but I have no idea where she got that. This is definitely one of the less appealing sodas I’ve had over the years, and yet, just like the smell, very familiar in a way I just can’t place.
Overall: In my opinion, this is not a good soda, at all. I’m sure I’ve had worse, but this was pretty awful. 2/10
