Don’t think that such a market is for everyone. These coffee-smart consumers don’t want a Starbucks experience. They prefer the warmth and comfort of their neighborhood coffee shop and roaster.
I think that the biggest thing for us at River Road is we know where our coffee comes from, we know its roasted fresh on a weekly basis, we know that the coffee beans themselves are in season and that we’re getting a really great quality product for our customers. – Forman Donnelly

A Brief Guide To Coffee Roasters In Main
Maine, One Coffee Roaster at a Time, by Murray Carpenter – The New York Times
Author, Murray Carpenter, reflects on his journey through Maine while writing his book Caffeinated, investigating the history, politics and science of caffeine.
Though we so appreciate it when overworked and under-rested, as a tonic to the working grind, we love it equally while on vacation. Even a restful vacation, no deadlines looming, relaxing with family and friends by the water, seems improved by coffee. Better yet, some really good coffee.
Midcoast Maine has never been known as a coffee destination, until now that is. Here are some of the roasters who are doing great things in Maine:
- Rock City in Rockland along the western mouth of Penobscot Bay
- Green Tree Coffee & Tea in Lincolnville Beach
- Rooster Brother in downtown Ellsworth
- 44 North Coffee in Deer Isle
