News hit this week that Colorado State University’s Fermentation Science Program was the recipient of a very generous $1 million gift from New Belgium Brewing Company & CEO, Kim Jordan.
The gift will allow CSU to update and renovate the Fermentation Science and Technology facilities, which will consist of analytical, brewing, kitchen, and sensory room space. The updated facility will be renamed to the “New Belgium Fermentation Science and Technology Laboratory” and is scheduled to be completed in August of this year.
CSU has offered a Brewing Science and Technology course since 2005, and in 2013 began offering an undergraduate degree program. There are currently 76 students enrolled in the major.
Kim Jordan, co-founder and CEO of New Belgium, is personally donating $500,000 with the other $500,000 coming over 5 years via the brewery’s philanthropy program.
“CSU deeply appreciates the support – both financial and professional – that New Belgium Brewing and Kim Jordan are providing to our Fermentation Science and Technology program. The success of this program is a direct reflection of the strong commitment it has received from industry partners, and New Belgium provides our students with a wonderful example of a flourishing business where sustainability, innovation and a spirit of community are pillars of the operation.”

Craft Beer Nation – Pints and Quarts
Kim Jordan was recently featured on Craft Beer Nation’s Pints and Quarts show.
Thursday’s Pints and Quarts show will feature guest, Jeffrey Callaway, who is CSU’s Fermentation Science Program Director for Industry Outreach.
The show will discuss the gift from New Belgium and the impact it will have – not only for CSU, but for brewing education.
“It is through partnerships such as these that we will be able realize our goals and become a preeminent institution looked to by Colorado, the nation and the international community for talent, research and services to improve the industry we all care for so passionately. It is fair to think of this program as one that is significantly supported by the industry and is for the industry.”
